Adobe are now giving you a choice between their traditional site licensing and the new kid on the block 'EEA', and it's based on teacher FTE, (Full-Time-Equivalent), not student volume, pricing available mid-May 2013, delivery of software expected 17th June 2013, but, for now if you can advise me by email, on your interest I can keep you updated on this new concept and provide an initial quote for your perusal. Where did the name "Berlin Wall Software Supermarket" originate?

The name "Berlin Wall Software Supermarket" originated over a battle between the Berlin Wall (known then as "Rob Beaumont Pty Ltd"), and a rival company, which went into external administration. Here's an excerpt from an article originally published in The Advertiser newspaper that details how our name originated:


The final shots might have been fired in one of Adelaide's more bitter business battles - the "Berlin Wall" saga.


Software Supermarket, a computer trader that once erected a 1.8m-high wall across it's competitor's city shop-front, is facing collapse with debts of about $400,000.


An administrator has been appointed to stem financial wounds from a lengthy war with former neighbor Rob Beaumont Pty Ltd, now trading as Berlin Wall Software Supermarket. The battle started in 1994, when a dispute over car parking and price cuts boiled over. Software Supermarket manager Mr Brian Morgan spent $5000 to erect the 9.5m-long aluminium fence across car parks, screening the neighboring Gilles St shopfront.


Mr Beaumont retaliated with signs branding the fence the "Berlin Wall" built by the "SS".

The wall eventually was torn down in November, 1994.

Since then, the two have been locked in a price war, while a dispute over whether Mr Beaumont can use the name "Berlin Wall Software Supermarket" has reached the courts.


Software Supermarket administrator Mr Jim Martin, appointed on February 18, partly blamed the long war for the company's position.

Meanwhile, Mr Beaumont says his business is flourishing and is claiming victory. "I'm the one with a smile on my face", he said.

As a footnote, the Software Supermarket closed their doors in August 2007, various creditors and customers we understand are not hopeful of receiving monies owed.


More of our history

An apprentice boilermaker welder from 1965 to 1970 and a couple of years as a tradesman after that, Rob joined Olivetti Australia and in his first month was awarded Salesman Of The Month. After seven years with Olivetti he started his own business as Rob Beaumont which then grew into Rob Beaumont Pty Ltd. He personally won several major long term contracts with Telstra (Telecom in those days) and ETSA while working for himself.

Since around 1980 Rob has moved to several different office addresses around town, each time looking for more room or a better location. His addresses have included 408 King William Street for 10 years, 30 North Terrace, the first floor of The Athletes' Foot, Protech in Gilbert Street, 27 Gilles Street, 416 King William Street, 130 Wright Street, 12-28 Gilles Street, 305 Morphett St and now 42 Halifax Street.

The message is: "Been around a long time in this industry, no plans to retire."
